A uninsured driver from Cambridgeshire who fled the scene after hitting and killing a pedestrian has been jailed. Marcin Pilarski, 36, struck Sam Pope, 28, as he walked alongside Oil Mills Road, Ramsey Mereside, at just before 11pm on May 11, 2024. The crash was only reported when another driver called 999 after seeing Mr Pope, of Lincoln Road, Peterborough, laying in the road. Emergency services attended but despite their efforts, Mr Pope was declared dead at the scene. In a tribute, his family said: "Sam was a free spirit, who liked to live his life at 100mph and believed that rules were meant to be broken. "We shall miss his smile and crazy sense of humour that would always make you laugh, despite what mood you were in that day. "Sam was a rough diamond with a heart made of gold and will leave a big hole in our lives." Huntingdonshire District Council’s cabinet will consider the proposed plan when it meets today (Tuesday September 15). This work will include upgrades to the gym, changing rooms and student entrance areas. Student Arrival From September, the following arrangements will be in place:  Years 7 and 8: Enter through the green gate in the Maths Quad and go to year group areas.  Year 9: Go directly to the North Courts.  Year 10: Enter through the lower South Hall entrance.  The main student entrance will be closed.  Students should use the designated pathways and zebra crossings around the site. Students are working hard, and we ask parents to support them by ensuring punctual attendance and that all correct equipment is brought each day.
