Crews were first called to the blaze at Holme Fen Nature Reserve, in Holme, at 10.24am on August 8. Crews from Dogsthorpe, Stanground, the north roaming fire engine, Whittlesey, Huntingdon, Thorney, St Neots, Ramsey and Sawston attended. The fire has now been burning for more than a week, but Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said that crews are expected to remain at the scene "for the foreseeable future". In a statement from today (August 17), the fire service said crews are still working to extinguish the fire. Wayne Swales, area commander at Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Although temperatures have reduced from during the week, it has still been hot on the fireground, but crews have stood up to the challenge exceptionally. The fire service said crews are still working to extinguish the fire (Image: Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue) "Thanks to the fantastic teamwork from all crews across the county and the incredible support from our National Resilience colleagues from all over the country, we look to be a better position. The fire has now been burning for a week straight, but Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said that crews are expected to remain at the scene "for the foreseeable future", as the fire is very complex and deep seated. Matthew Warren, chief fire officer at Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "This has been one of the most significant fires our county has faced in many, many years. "Our crews have been amazing in the face of gruelling conditions. "Every station across the county has been at the site over the course of the week.
